Resolutions?

12/30/2016

This is another short post. My wife and I are in Denver for Christmas, and we are visiting lots of family and friends. The amount of time I'll have to write will be small.
I'm still editing Book 2 of Just Lucky, but I'm also giving a lot of thought to the plotting of Saving Atlantis. This is going to challenge me more than the four novels that came before. In all those cases the plot just came naturally and the sequence of events followed smoothly with little actual conscious deliberation. Not this time; it was flowing that way until I realized I had the characters behaving in an unrealistic way.
Whether the story is fantasy, paranormal romance, regular romance, science fiction, a western, or anything else, there are certain decisions or actions human beings will make in certain situations. Writing a plot line that ignores those almost certain responses is just no good.
This book will show what kind of writer I can be. Hopefully it will show a positive evaluation.
As we come to the end of 2016, I wish to make a suggestion. If you are one of those that make New Year's Resolutions (I never have been) I ask that you resolve to read more. If that includes one of my novels or stories, all the better. But resolve to read more—more fiction, more biographies or histories or memoirs or even educational books. Just read.
Finally, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you. May God bless you all this week and in the coming year.

Another Clunker

Not much good news on the writing front. Despite the increased publicity, the book signing flopped again. Very disappointing.
I've concluded that book signings may produce a lot of attention and sales if the author is very well-known, especially nationally known.  A large metropolitan area will also be helpful. So Stephen King in Madison, Wisconsin, or James Patterson in St. Louis will attract a bunch of people. Fred Waiss in Prairie du Chien, though, just clunks.
Slightly better news is that my story, "The Treasure of the Mountain King," as mentioned in the previous post, is available right now (as of Dec. 2) on the Reading Lamp tab of Page and Spine Magazine.
This is another short post, I'm sorry to say. It's been snowing all day and it appears to be trickling to a stop, so I have a lot of shoveling to do.
I want to repeat one request. If you read any of my books, and like them, please post a good review on Amazon.
I have no idea when the next post will come. It will depend on my required work hours.
Thank you all for reading.
