N.K. Wagner suggested I needed a story about my "mascots"--the aggressive-looking torch bearers pictured at the top of these pages. It seemed like a good idea, so I'm going to give it a try. I'm not sure where it will end up, or even how it's going to get there, but I'll try to describe the journey as it unfolds.
It may seem that the tops of these pages are identical pictures of a single person. Not so. They are identical pictures of identical twins--Feldspar and Gypsum. They are members of a race that calls themselves the Riotori. It is a peculiarity of their race that over 50% of births are identical twins. This has resulted, over the generations, of a limited gene pool, and especially within geographical areas. So the young males venture out of their home territories in search of females that do not resemble the girls next door. And if said females are not part of an identical twin pair, all the better.
Feldspar and Gypsum are two such young males, and this will, at least at the beginning, be the story of their search.
[If, along the way, you have a suggestion, critique, complaint, or (especially!) a compliment, don't hesitate to let me know!]
